Artist Statement

Artist’s Statement                                                                Laura J Brown

I think that we are entering  a new dimension of human connectedness and cooperation and  I believe that artists are going to be required to  work at a much different level.  It is my intention as an artist for my paintings to express a deeper, more intuitive level of being and to be used as actual tools of transformation for the viewer.

It has always been my experience that painting is a direct connection with the Divine.   When I am painting, it often feels like shaman or channeling work and that a doorway is being created to that Divine connection. There is usually a message that the painting would like to get across and it is simply my job to listen to what I hear and put that down on the canvas.  I use my intuition to guide me through the process.  As a result find that there is a tangible, real, energetic transmission that comes through and craves viewer contact.  The viewer can honor this energy by using the painting for the message it’s attempting to convey and point them in the direction that is the most expansive and healing.  In this way, the work becomes part of a creative connection, not just a pretty picture.   I want my work to be in peoples’ homes and places where they can be used as a catalyst for change.

I believe that as a species, we are being called upon to evolve into something greater than we have shown ourselves to be in the past.  We are all hungering for change and we know it.  We know now that we are all connected, and we can see that we are responsible for creating the kind of world we have.  As I have become more aware of this, it has been increasingly important to put my thoughts and energies in the direction I would like to see my life and the lives of my fellow humans go.  Being an artist and connecting with people through my paintings gives me the broadest and most powerful platform to become the change I would like to see.
